A Letter From Kerry

In March of 2020, I locked up the office for the night with no idea when we’d ever be back to “normal” and together in person again from 8am-5pm at K. Sutherland PR. Over the last decade, I’ve taken so much pride in our adorable office locations- modern, industrial in Irvine, beach bungalow in Laguna Beach, and our historic charmer down by the Truckee River. I’ve enjoyed shopping for unique furniture with the team, hitting up all the great southern California flea markets, sourcing one-of-a-kind art, accessories and more for each iteration of our office. Our office space always reflected our taste, grew alongside our changing team, and mirrored our approach to the work we do, inspiring great ideas and conversation.

Now, one and a half years later, we’re still working remotely. And while I do miss the office, I’ll admit I have embraced working from home. I feel grateful that our clients are spread across the map, which has made working remotely less of a disruption for us. Working from home has given us new flexibility, comfort and a sense of safety that’s been important amid a global pandemic, stressful election, social injustice, and one global crisis after another. Working remotely has reinforced our commitment to do even our small part to help stop the spread of this terrible virus. And, it’s possible that K. Sutherland PR will move into a new office space one day, but I’m still not sure when.

If it’s not obvious, I’m sentimental. I’ve been holding on to the KSPR furniture (plus so many memories) and keeping things safe in a nearby storage unit wondering when they’d be of use again. But today, I’m excited to let everything go and be of use to an incredibly worthy cause.

I learned of the Northern Nevada International Center (NNIC) recently, and their current focus on helping refugee families from Afghanistan resettle in the Reno/Sparks area. They are rapidly setting up homes for dozens of families, and in desperate need of furniture and more. I’m so happy to donate what furniture K. Sutherland PR has collected over the years, and hope they help bring some joy to these families.

This is the current wish list at NNIC. If you would like to donate any items, I’d be happy to pick them up from you. These families are expected to arrive in November, so the next few weeks are crucial for the NNIC in collecting donations to ensure they’ll have everything they need to settle in and start feeling at home.
